Mary Flynn is an artist creating in many mediums including acrylic, encaustic and collage/mixed media. Born and raised in Hamilton with a "slight" detour (25 years) in Toronto as a corporate salesperson, Mary returned home to Hamilton in 2012. Along the way, she discovered the healing properties of hiking, nature and then art.
While mostly self-taught, Mary has taken many courses and workshops at Etobicoke School of the Arts, Dundas Valley School of Arts, Georgian Bay Centre for the Arts and the Cotton Factory.
Her work has been sold at McMaster's Art in the Workplace, to private collectors and now through her own gallery, The Back Alley Gallery".
The Back Alley Gallery was born out of a simple desire to spend more time creating. It has become a catalyst to bring together creatives, art professionals, and the community. Mary's garage turned studio has evolved into a place where artists can meet to discuss their artistic practice, create art and give or take workshops. An exhibition space is included that highlights local artist’s work through a series of rotating exhibitions. From the artist's perspective, it's a fun, accessible place which serves as an inspiration to explore creativity and build confidence often leading to their first gallery showing. It is also a place for more experienced artists to present workshops and to promote connection between fellow artists as well as also show and sell their art in the gallery. For the community, it is a welcome space to experience art through our gallery shows, meet artists, and explore their own creativity through the workshops. Art for all is necessary and vital.
