Born in southern Ontario, I attended York University for Fine Arts Visual Arts. Two years into my BFA, I left to study fashion in London, UK. There I learned traditional tailoring, embellishment, and textile design, earning my Certificate in Tailoring and working for designers doing hand-embellishment for their collections. In 2010 I launched my eponymous design label in Toronto and ran it for 10 years, creating hundreds of couture gowns for bridal clients all over North America. At the end of 2019 I became a full-time artist focusing on using the techniques once used for gowns to create pieces that felt more reflective of the things I really love and connect with.
I am a studio artist and designer, creating three-dimensional light-reflective pieces. After over a decade designing custom couture fashion for my eponymous label where I specialized in traditional hand-embellishment, I now use those same techniques - including tambour, traditional embroidery and beading - along with hand-cutting and hand-painting sequins. I really enjoy pushing the definition of ‘sequin’. I twist natural and supernatural subjects, merging science and fairytales to lure the viewer into believing in everyday magic. Flowers, insects, anatomy and mythical creatures are my favourite themes. Shiny bones and bugs.
